This cover image of a two fingered salute was made manually using square image files in QuarkXpress on a grid of 12 x 24 one centimetre shots curated from the issue in monotone. I filmed myself with a handy-cam and used a still as the guide for the montage, and I had to put myself in there didn’t I?

/ liquid /
“Liquid” was produced during the winter months of 1999-2000 in the Eastern Atlantic mostly along the North shore of Fuerteventura and the Isle of De Lobos.
It was shot with the intention of creating visual stimulation, rather than factual information. The work is attempting to portray experience – no more, no less.

song White Riot by The Clash / artist Dave tha Chimp
Every issue we asked an artist to visually represent a song which fed into the issues theme. Chimp was a regular contributor to the magazine and his life-long ethic of never doing what you’re told was perfect for this songs message.

Photography Aaron Chang
Ever had the feeling of being lost in infinite space? Ever experienced the sensation, close to vertigo, of distance and isolation in an endless silence? There is an ominous insignificance to your every action here, though each thought is focussed on the here-and-now like never before. You are alone in nature. The only mediation you experience is that between the board and the snow on which you ride.
